Kenny citizen of the year

Kenny Hearn who has dedicated his life to rowing has been awarded the town’s citizen of the year.
Ken Hearn was gifted the Citizens Award by outgoing mayor Dermot McGeough at the mayor’s introduction ceremony on Thursday night.
He was nominated for his involvement in the Bideford Regatta for the past 70 years.
His nomination said he had spent his time with the regatta in many roles, including as coxwain, rowing coach and as a member of the Bideford Regatta committee.
He has also been actively involved in the Bideford Reds, including rowing in the winning team in the ARA national championships in 1955.
His nomination said: “A true gentleman, Ken is a warm and popular person who is passionate about his rowing.”
Also awarded at the ceremony were: Blackwells Pasties and Crabby Dicks for their Christmas lights; The Mariners and Crabby Dicks for floral displays; and Dr Buckland’s Children’s Holiday Foundation was presented with a cheque as the mayor’s chosen charity last year.
